Onzie Nobles: Chadbourn

    Onzie Nobles of Chadbourn went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center in Whiteville. He was 82.
    He was the son of the late Willie Lee and Minnie Lee Nobles.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kaye Nobles; eight sibling, Alton Nobles, Archie Nobles, Elroy Nobles, Earl Nobles, Gladys Prevatte, Mary Creech, Kathleen Hilbourn and Sarah Robinson.
    He was a member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church and a retired farmer.  He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army and a charter member of Roseland Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a Lieutenant until his retirement.    
    Final were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at Worthington Funeral Home with Reverend Barren Nobles and Reverend Buddy Seay officiating.  Interment followed in the Ward’s Station Church of God Cemetery with honors provided by the Columbus County Fire and Rescue Honor Guard.
    He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Thelma Godwin Nobles of the home; two daughters, Debbie N. Norris of Lumberton and Tammy N. Hinson of Chadbourn; three sisters, Emma Lee Edwards, Sadie N. Hammonds and Martha N. Duncan all of Chadbourn; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
