William Clayton Fowler: Green Sea

    William Clayton Fowler Sr. of Green Sea died Tuesday March 3, in McLeod Loris hospital. He was 99.
    Born Feb. 3, 1916 in Horry County, he was the son of the late Charlie Monroe Fowler and Rebecca Lou Cribb Fowler.
    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie D. Fowler; a daughter, Camellia Fowler; a son-in-law, Carliss Long; a grandchild, Cindy Crabtree; five brothers, Roland Fowler, Earl Fowler, Lee Fowler, Joe Fowler, CM Fowler; and three sisters, Pauline Harrelson, Beatrice Harris, Derotha Gore.
    He is survived by one son, William Clayton “Billy” Fowler Jr. and wife Linda L. of Green Sea; two daughters, Carolyn Fowler Long of Gastonia and Clara Fowler Avant and husband Milton of Kernersville; son-in-law Ernie Fowler of High Point; 11 grandchildren, Cheryl Kuykendall (Nathan), Gregory Avant (Judy), Duane Avant (Donna), Wilma Pond (Tim), Kim Costa (Chris), Gil Long (Janet), Chris Long (Kelly), Clayton D. Long, Tammy Horne (Randy), Teresa Loflin (Eric), Tonya Fowler; 20 great grandchildren; and sox great-great grandchildren.
    He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in World War II.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, in Inman Ward Funeral Home, Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in Green Sea Baptist Church, Green Sea, with burial following in Green Sea Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green Sea Cemetery Fund, 1041 Green Sea Rd., Green Sea, SC 29545.
