Lonnie Lynwood Norris: Tabor City

    Lonnie Lynwood Norris of Tabor City died Saturday, April 25. He was 80.
    Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Bradie Malcolm Norris and Bertie Long Norris.
    He was North Carolina’s longest serving county commissioner where he served for 32 years.
    He is survived by his wife of 63 years Geniece C. Norris of the home; two daughters, Daphne Lanier and husband David of Tabor City and Lynn Buffkin and husband Stan of Loris. one son, Dale Norris and wife Kim of Tabor City; one brother, Elwood Norris of Tabor City; six grandchildren, Shonna Gurkin, Shayne Lanier, Tonya Creech, Lindsey Fipps, Joye Barnes, Trevor Norris; seven great grandchildren, Grayson, Garrett, Kinley, Noah, Abbie, Liam, Creed.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Fowler; and a great granddaughter Lochlan Fipps.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday April 27, in Inman Ward Funeral Home in Tabor City.
    Funeral services were were planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday April 28, in the Inman Ward Chapel, with burial following in Sandy Plain Cemetery, Tabor City.
