Wilma Webber Stone: Cary
Wilma Webber Stone of Cary died quietly and peacefully on Sunday, April 26 at “The Oaks of Mayview” in Raleigh.
She was surrounded by her family, her favorite Methodist hymns and her beloved husband of 9 years, William (Bill) Stone.
Wilma was born, Wilma Roberta Wright, in 1928 to Delia and Whit Wright in Columbus County. She graduated Duke University School of Nursing, later married, David Webber, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Tabor City, where she was a member for many years. David and Wilma had three girls, Emily Webber, Claire Coates and Meg Shrum. She loved flowers, animals, cooking and long walks on the beach.
Wilma lived her life with quiet dignity and respect for all. She believed in kindness, accepting others for who they were, and gentle, undemanding giving.
Wilma leaves behind her husband, three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind Bill’s daughters and family, who loved her and cared for her as their own.
Visitation was planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 1 at Inman Ward Funeral Home in Tabor City.
Services were planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2 from Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh. The family planned to receive visitors in the narthex of the church after the service on Saturday. A private burial will later follow.
