Richard Henry Johnson: Nichols

Richard Henry Johnson of Nichols, age 87, passed away Thursday, April 23 at his daughter’s home in Georgie, following an illness.
Mr. Johnson was born June 29, 1927 in Kingsport, Tennessee, a son of Mr. Jack Dee Johnson and Mrs. Lillian Totten Johnson. Mr. Johnson served his country with honor and courage in the U.S. Navy during WWII and with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he worked as a salesman and was a longtime member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Rick Johnson and wife, Fran of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Sarah “Sally” McGonnigal and husband, Howatt of Cumming, Georgia and Lillian Rebecca “Becky” Johnson-Huggins of Socastee; seven loving grandchildren, Richard McGonnigal, Elizabeth Brown, Patrick McGonnigal, Mark Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Julia Johnson and Shelley Huggins; five loving great-grandchildren, Madeline McGonnigal, Gavin McGonnigal, Kaitlyn McGonnigal, Nolan Brown and Christian Brown; and three sisters, Sara Haynes and Pat Osborne, both of Pensacola, Florida and Cynthia Barton and husband, Bart of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Lilly Johnson, his brother, Fred Johnson and his sister, Jane Craig.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Kirkland officiating. Committal services were private.
