Myrtle Hardee Stevens: Loris

    Myrtle Hardee Stevens of Loris passed away Sunday, April 26 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 79.
    She was born on Nov. 18, 1935 in Loris and was the daughter of the late Mr. Nathan C. Hardee and the late Mrs. Gracie Leigh Hardee.
     Myrtle was a loyal servant of her Lord, Jesus Christ and was a member of Cane Branch Baptist Church of Loris. She valued humor and laughter and had a quick wit. She cherished family and was a life-long care giver for many in her family. Myrtle was blessed with a tremendous work ethic and was employed for over twenty years at Stanley’s Discount Center in Tabor City, as well as numerous other places throughout her life.
     She is survived by two sons and three daughter-in-laws, Michael and Gwen, Danny and Judy and Cindy Stevens all of Loris; seven loving grandchildren, JoAnne Davison, Shannon Livingston, Angie Prince, Renee Kratzer, Kellie Stevens, Mindy Powell and Christopher Stevens; twelve loving great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
     In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Phillip Ray Stevens; one son, David Ray Stevens and three brothers, Albert, Joseph Berlin and Needham Carl Hardee.
     We would like to thank her “Care Team” from Mercy Hospice for all of their compassion and support during this difficult time. They are JoAnne Haschak, Jane Griffith, Justin Carter, Kitty Boyd, Chari Brown and Cathy Moretz. Also, a special “Thank you” to Gwen Stevens and Shannon Livingston for their incredible love and devotion.
     Funeral services were held 11a.m. Thursday, April 30 at Cane Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Johnson and Rev. Alvin Jackson officiating. Committal services followed at Stevens Cemetery.
