Threading the needle

An area woman apparently escaped life threatening injuries when her VW Beetle left Lebanon Church Road, careened through a fence and rolled between a power pole and its supporting guide wire before 11 a.m. Friday.
Initial 911 reports that the woman was entrapped and her car on fire proved false. A Tabor City Emergency Services ambulance took the woman to Columbus Regional Healthcare, with a Whiteville Rescue Unit Paramedic assisting in her care.
An early call for helicopter standby to transport the woman to a regional trauma center was canceled after medical personnel assessed her injuries.
