Vergie Elwood McDowell Boyd: Loris

Vergie Elwood McDowell Boyd of Loris went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June, 19 at Loris Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following an illness. She was 95.
Born on March 10, 1920 in Loris, she was the daughter of the late James Pinkney “Pink” McDowell and the late Callie Floyd McDowell. Mrs. Boyd was a loving homemaker and a member of Lawndale Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma McDowell and husband, Larry of Conway; son, Rev. Wofford Boyd and wife, Carolyn of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Kipp McDowell and wife, Anna and Kevin McDowell all of Conway, and Caryn Boyd Avers and husband, Scott of Greensboro; six great-grandchildren, Jessica McDowell of Greenwood, Hayes McDowell of Central, Seth McDowell and Isaac McDowell both of Conway and Gabriel Avers and Caleb Avers both of Greensboro; one brother, Liston McDowell of Loris, and three sisters, Eunice Stevens and husband, Bill of Tabor City, Peggy Gore and husband “C.C.” of Loris, SC and Pat Culler and husband, Joe of Summerville.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Wofford Boyd and three sisters, Bonnie M. Lupo, Vernice M. Boyd and Ethel M. Elvington.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Loris Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their compassionate care during this difficult time.
Funeral services were planned for 3:30 p.m., Monday, June 22 at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. The family planned to receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service at Hardwick Funeral Home.
Committal services will be private.
