James S. Sarvis: Whiteville

    James S. Sarvis of Whiteville died Friday, June 26, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Whiteville. He was 80.
    Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Fred Devine Sarvis and Lettie Mae Ward Sarvis.
    He is survived by his wife, Louise R, Sarvis of Whiteville; three daughters, Carolyn Sarvis of Whiteville, Loretta Batten and Debbie Sarvis of Nakina; a son, Allen Sarvis of Whiteville; two sisters, Edna Cartrette of Gastonia and Shirley Smith of Nakina; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, JD. Sarvis and EC Sarvis; and two sisters, Dora Mae Beane and Margaret Kono.
    Visitation was planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, in Cypress Creek Freewill Baptist Church, with burial following in Hosea Simmons Cemetery, Nakina.
