Gunfire during the church hour in downtown Loris Sunday morning claimed the life of a local man, resulting in the arrest of another now charged with murder, Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police Department said.
Alvin James Johnson, 35, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and suffered to less serious bullet injuries to his lower body, Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said Monday.
Gary Kristin Batton, 36, taken into custody by Horry County officers soon after the shooting, was formally charged with murder on Monday, jailed without bond at the Horry County Detention Center near Conway, Denis said in a news release.
