Janet Pope Blalock: Rougemont
Janet Pope Blalock of Rougemont died in her home on Sept. 1. She was 79.
Born in Wake County to the late J.G. Pope and Mary Tilley Pope, she was the wife of the late Hugh G. Blalock Jr.
Mrs. Blalock had several ties to Tabor City. She was an administrative assistant to former state Sen. R.C. Soles Jr. in the North Carolina General Assembly for 34 years, and was a niece of Rev. J.P. Jones of Tabor City, making her a first cousin to the J.P. Jones sons.
She was also a cousin of Art Pope, who was State Budget Director for Gov. Pat McCrory.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen H. Puryear of Keystone Heights, Florida and Mark D. Puryear of Raleigh; a step-daughter, Kathy Casey of Raleigh; a sister, Joyce Stuart of Fuquay-Varina; a brother, David Pope of Pinehurst; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Rougemont, led by Rev. Barry Chambers. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Wake Chapel Cemetery in Fuquay-Varina, led by Pastor Steve Ellis.
