Howard Grainger: Longs
1919 – 2015
Howard Grainger of Longs passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9 at his home in Longs after a long illness. He was 96.
Born on Oct. 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Ferd and Minnie Sarvis Grainger. He was a member of Mt. Leon Baptist Church and a retired brick mason.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine L. Grainger; his children, Larry Grainger of Ocean City, Maryland and Carolyn Wentz of Pasadena, Maryland; his sister, Dorothy Livingston of Loris; his daughter-in-law, Gale Grainger of Georgia; his step-daughters, Linda Vereen, Gail Griffin, Deborah Dreyfous, and Paige Livingston Gilmore all of Longs; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Leona Stevens Grainger; his son, Dale Grainger; his sister, Austin Bryant; his brothers Hoyt Grainger and Sam Grainger; and his step-son, Tommy Livingston.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at Mt. Leon Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Singleton and Chaplain John Edwards officiating, burial following in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was planned for the hour prior to the service at the church.
