Simp Franklin Coleman: Cerro Gordo

1939 – 2016

    Simp Franklin Coleman of Cerro Gordo died Monday, Jan. 4, in Southern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton. He was 76.
    Born May 20, 1939 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Simp Thomas Coleman and Madgie Edwards Coleman.
    He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Fowler Coleman; a son, Gentry Mark Coleman and wife Martha; a granddaughter, Kacie Elizabeth Coleman; and one grandson, Zac Lovette.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Coleman; and four sisters, Ada Floyd, Kathleen Wilson, Rowena Watts, and Mary Estleen.
    Mr. Coleman was a Veteran of the United States Army and a Mason of Tabor Lodge #563. He retired from the Department of Correction after 34 years of service.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 6), in Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Cerro Gordo. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
