Mary Davis Mercer Soles: Green Sea

1944 – 2016

    Mary Davis Mercer Soles of Green Sea, died Saturday, Jan. 16, in McLeod Loris hospital. She was 71.
    Born in Elizabeth City, she was the daughter of the late George Edward and Estelle Walker Davis. She was a member of Emerson Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer for 45 years.
    She is survived by her husband, Jackie Soles of Green Sea; a son, Bill Mercer of Tabor City; a daughter, Samantha Mercer Thompson (Roy) of Whiteville: three brothers, Edward Davis, Alan Davis and Van Davis, all of Whiteville; three grandchildren, Benjamin Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Chloe Thompson, two step children, Jacqueline Beck (Larry) of Nakina and Avery Soles of Whiteville; five step grandchildren, Larymi Beck, Janna Beck, Chrystal Soles, Tasha Grainger, and Lander Soles; and eight step great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband Billy Ray Mercer; a brother, Jim Davis; and a grandson, Samuel Ray Thompson.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in Inman Ward Funeral Home in Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, Tabor City, with burial following in McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn.
