Catherine Ward Spivey: Tabor City

1928 – 2016

    Catherine Ward Spivey of Tabor City died Wednesday Feb. 10, in her home. She was 87.
    Born May 23, 1928 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Zeddie Ward and Rosa Burroughs Ward.
    She is survived by three daughters, Myra Bellamy of Loris, Carolyn Lott of Little River, Saundra Wright of Tabor City; one brother, Brooks Ward of Whiteville; three sisters, Wanda W. Wagner of Whiteville, Anne Hughes and Muriel O’Tuel of North Myrtle Beach; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern Spivey; and two brothers, Harold Ward and Waylon Ward.
    Catherine spent many years as a seamstress at work and home, enjoyed her garden, grandchildren, farming with her husband, and spending time with her family and friends. However her main passion was serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! She was of the holiness faith.
    Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, Tabor City, with burial following in Wright Cemetery, Minos Meares Road, Tabor City. Visitation was planned for the hour prior to the service, in the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 44 McNeil Plaza, Whiteville, NC 28472 in honor of the tender care and love they provided mama during her illness.
