Jimmy Ward Spivey: Whiteville

1941 – 2016

    Jimmy Ward Spivey of Whiteville died Thursday,  Feb. 25 in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, Whiteville. He was 74.
     Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late H. Cliff Spivey and Ruby Hooker Spivey.
    He was preceded in death by three siblings, Doris Spivey Gay; Barbara S. Spivey, and Donald D. Spivey.
    For 30 years Jimmy was employed with Columbus County Schools. Prior to that, he was a N.C. probation and parole officer. He also enjoyed serving as the Columbus Baptist R.A. Sports Director for many years.
    He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo Peterson Spivey; one son, Randall Kent Spivey (Sylvia) of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Tonya Jo Spivey Schoolcraft (Jason) of Whiteville; and two grandsons, Zachary and Lance Spivey of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by one sister, Faye S. Rozier of Tabor City and two brothers, Tommy Spivey of Tabor City and Billy Spivey (Daphine) of Inman.
    Visitation was planned from 1 to 2:30 Sunday, Feb. 28 in Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City with graveside services following at 3 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center and Angel House, 206 Warrior Trail Rd. Whiteville, NC 28472.
