Red-letter railroad days

Ribbons fell as rail service inched closer to Columbus, Horry and Marion counties this week.
R.J. Corman Railroad Group hosted ribbon cuttings in Chadbourn Tuesday, Loris (seen here) Wednesday morning, celebrating the return of rail service on the former and long-idled Carolina Southern Railway lines.
Good crowds were present for both events, with Corman CEO Craig King and others offering praise for the groundbreaking level of cooperation involving three counties, two states, and some federal assistance that made the purchase by Corman, and its investment in the lines, possible.
See the story and photos from the Chadbourn celebration in today’s Tabor-Loris Tribune in print and online, and more from Loris next week. – Deuce Niven
