Murder-suicide in Loris area home
Murder-suicide has been determined to be the cause of death for a couple discovered shot dead inside their Loris area Monday night, the Horry County Police Department said Wednesday.
Bodies of John Steere, 36, and his wife Candace Steere, 34, were found inside the home at 275 Hulls Island Road by a family member who had been unable to make contact with Candace Steere, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge Jr. said..
A Paramedic confirmed both were dead, an Horry County Police Department report said. Edge said he did not know how long the couple had been dead before their bodies were discovered.
Investigators believe John Steere killed his wife “before taking his own life,” the report said.
“Interviews of family members discovered that a recent history of domestic abuse had been occurring between them,” the report said, “however, it had gone unreported to police.
“Horry County Police would like to reinforce the necessity to report domestic violence whenever it is seen or suspected.”
