Sex crime warrants involving a minor were served on a Whiteville man Thursday, landing him in jail with a bond of more than $2 million, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.
Christopher McDaniel Parker, 44, of the 2000 block of New Britton Hwy, was charged with eight counts each of statutory rape by a defendant at least six years older than the victim, indecent liberties with a child, and incest with a child at least six years older than the victim; and one count of sexual offense by a defendant at least six years older than the victim.
There is only one victim in this case, Maj. Bobby Worley said.
Parker was held at the Columbus County Detention Center under bonds totaling $2.55 million.
Parker’s arrest followed an investigation launched after a “concerned individual” provided information to the sheriff’s office, a news release said.
A total of 17 warrants served on Parker allege the crimes took place during eight consecutive periods of time, in varying lengths, beginning July 1, 2014 and ending April 14 of this year. Every warrant but one says the victim was younger than 16.
One statutory rape warrant, alleging the crime took place on April 14, does not say the victim was younger than 16.
