Velma Gause Cox: Loris

1922 – 2016

    Velma Gause Cox of Loris went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday morning, April 17. She was 94.
    Mrs. Cox was born in Horry County a daughter of the late William Davis Gause and the late Eva Floyd Gause.
    She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she was very active in the W.M.U. and taught the Beginners Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Cox loved flowers, gardening, cooking, and sewing. She especially enjoyed doing dealer transfers for Bell and Bell Buick/GMC. Mrs. Cox was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
    She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, H. Brooks Cox, an infant son, Brooks Bethea Cox, three brothers, Alton, James, and Furman Gause, two sisters, Vera Boyd and Louvenia Stephens, her stepmother, Ora Spivey Gause, and a son-in-law, Wayne Todd.
    Survivors include one son, Randy Brooks Cox (Pat) of Petersburg, Virginia; three daughters, Phyllis Todd of Charleston, Linda Bell (W.C.) of the Bayboro community, and Dale Carter (David) of Loris, one sister, Alice Gause Elliott of Loris, seven grandchildren, Tammy Bell Floyd (Harold), Kimberly Bell Phelps (Doug), William C. Bell, Jr. (Kathy), Robin King Grainger, Ranessa King Fernander (Paul), Brittney Cox, and Ryan Cox, ten great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel with Rev. Thelton Powell and Rev. Donnie Graham officiating. Entombment will follow at the Twin City Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
