Grover Selmon Stanley: Clarendon

1935 – 2016

    Grover Selmon Stanley of Clarendon, died Monday, May 9, in Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton. He was 80.
    Born Aug. 20, 1935 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Henry Emerson Stanley and Vira Hinson Stanley and the widower of the love of his life, Norma Jean Baldwin Stanley.  
    He is survived by one daughter, Tricia Clontz (Buddy) of Tabor City; one son,  Mark Selmon Stanley (Karen) of Amherst, Virginia; two sisters, June Nichols of Chadbourn, Lorraine Bullock of Chadbourn; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Ayres (Brian), Carrie Clontz, Katelyn Jean Stanley, Joel M. Stanley, Micah Stanley, Eden Stanley, Nathaniel Stanley, Simeon Stanley; one great grandchild, Jude Clontz.
    In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Hubert Stanley, Paul Stanley, Homer Stanley, Cecil Stanley; and four sisters, Estelle Jayroe, Lucille Cox, Dot Elkin, and Gladys Mills.
    Mr. Stanley was a faithful member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church where he was the song leader and served as a deacon.  He was a lifelong farmer and business man.
    Visitation was planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, in Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in Forest Lawn Baptist Church, Tabor City, with burial following in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lawn Baptist Church, P.O. Box 593, Tabor City, NC  28463.
