Doris Hayes Clemons: Green Sea

1925 – 2016
Doris Hayes Clemons of Green Sea passed away Wednesday, May 25 at The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg. She was 91.
Mrs. Clemons was born on April 12, 1925 in Green Sea, the daughter of the late Mr. Heniard Earl Hayes and the late Mrs. Malcolm Price Hayes.
Mrs. Clemons was an elementary school teacher for thirty-seven years and was once chosen as Teacher of the Year for Horry County. She was also a longtime member of Green Sea Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in years past but will be most remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cox and her husband, Ron of Orangeburg; four grandchildren, Heather Cox Butler and husband, Jeff, Ryan Cox and wife, Crystal, Wendy Clemons Butt and husband, Kevin, and Tiffany Clemons Putman and husband, Andrew; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Hayes, Sarah Jefferies, Trey, Matthew, Tyson, Kelly and Anna and two sisters, Sylvia H. Livingston of Rock Hill, and Emily H. Small and husband, Duboyce of Greenville, South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clemons was predeceased by her husband, Jack Clemons; her son, Barry Anthony Clemons; her brother, Lowell Hayes and her sister, Sara Katherine Strickland.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Green Sea Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Phillips officiating. Committal services followed at Green Sea Cemetery.
