Howell Elmer Caines: Tabor City
1928 – 2016
Howell Elmer Caines of Tabor City died Friday, June 17 in McLeod Loris hospital. Born Nov. 4, 1928 in Horry County, he was the son of the late Zenus D. and Zemma Fowler Caines.
He was a graduate of Tabor City High School and East Carolina University, a lifetime public school educator, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Laura Gore and Alta Caines; and four brothers, Rio Caines, Rodney Eldridge Caines, Armegy Hudson Caines, Judson Caines.
He is survived by three nieces, Hilda Gore Johnson (Donnie) of Loris, Katherine Melton (Robert) of Summerville, and June Overton (Charles) of Tabor City; five nephews, Royce Gore, Clifford Gore, and Leonard Gore of Tabor City, Richard Caines of Tampa, Florida, and Eldridge Caines of Charleston.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, Tabor City. Burial followed in Old Zion Cemetery, Tabor City. Visitation was planned for the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
