South Columbus Angels advance to World Series

    South Columbus Dixie Angels are the North Carolina Dixie Softball Angels X-Play champions following a decisive 12-0 victory in three innings over Duplin County in state tournament action in Brunswick County on Wednesday.
    They will join the Dixie Debs from Columbus County at the Dixie Softball World Series starting Friday, July 29, in Alexandria, Louisiana.
    Dixie Debs completed their state tournament with a 9-3 win over Montgomery County on Tuesday.
    Leland took the state Coach Pitch Dixie Baseball title Tuesday with a 6-5 win over Leland to cap the tournament that began Saturday at the Tabor City Sports Complex.
    Host team South Columbus, and a Columbus County squad, were eliminated earlier in the double-elimination tournament.
    Leland advances to the Dixie Youth Coach Pitch World Series July 30 through Aug. 2 in Laurel, Mississippi.
