William D. Wright: Tabor City

William D. Wright of Tabor City died Wednesday, July 20 in McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. He was 66.
Born March 5, 1950 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Dolphus Wright and Maggie Porter Wright Simmons.
He was an educator, beginning his career at Green Sea High School as a teacher and coach. He taught and served as assistant principal at Tabor City West Elementary School and was assistant principal at East Columbus High School and West Columbus High School.
William was principal of Acme-Delco Middle School, Evergreen Elementary School, Tabor City Middle School, Boys and Girls Home School, and Cerro Gordo Elementary School.
He was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne McKee Wright of the home; one daughter, Adrienne Wright Carroll (Trevor) of Burgaw; one son, Colby Grant Wright (Allison) of Monticello, Illinois; two brothers, Steve Allen Wright of Tabor City and Johnny Steadman Wright of Green Sea; two grandchildren, Alaina Carroll and Molly Carroll.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Wright; and step-father, Charles Simmons.
Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22 in Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23 in New Life Baptist Church, Tabor City, with burial following in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City.
