World series championship dreams were dashed for the South Columbus Dixie Softball Dixie Angels X-Play team with a 0-1 loss to South Carolina champs from Aynor Sunday night.
“Our girls have had an awesome season,” head coach Jeff Fowler said after the disappointing loss eliminated the team from the tournament.
South Columbus girls fell to Texas 1-5 in the opening round Saturday, defeated Virginia 3-0 Sunday morning, before falling in their second Sunday game.
Fowler said the team would be headed back to Columbus County Monday morning, a 14-hour trek for the team and supporters.
Columbus County Debs remain in action, undefeated in World Series play in Alexandria, Louisiana. They play at 8:30 p.m. eastern time Monday.
