Ruby Lyle Whittington Oliver: Loris

1919 – 2016
 
    Ruby Lyle Whittington Oliver of Loris passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Loris Rehab and Nursing Center.  She was 97.
    Born on May 31, 1919 in Clarkton, she was the daughter of the late Brantley Forrest Whittington and the late Mabel “May” Harper Whittington.
    Mrs. Oliver received master’s degrees from both the University of South Carolina and Coker College. She went on to work with the Horry County School System and was the principle at Green Sea Floyds Elementary School at the time of her retirement. Mrs. Oliver was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a longtime active member of Loris First Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her son, David F. Oliver of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Patricia O. Deal and her husband, Sam of Columbia, and Betty O. Welborn of Loris; eight loving grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oliver was predeceased by her husband, Sam Oliver; two brothers, Dr. Forrest Brooks Whittington and Boyd B. Whittington and her sister, Sadie W. Carter.
     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dr. Louis Venable officiating. Committal services will be private.
    Family planned to receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to services on Friday at Hardwick Funeral Home.
