Jack Roscoe Bell: Loris

1936 – 2016

    Jack Roscoe Bell of Loris passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.
    Born Oct. 19, 1936 in Loris, he was the son of the late Robert Roscoe Bell and the late Lou Mae Strickland Bell.
    Mr. Bell served his country with courage and honor in the United States Army.
    Throughout his life, Mr. Bell worked as a farmer, a police officer and most recently as the owner of Henry’s Barn selling antiques. He was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he started the Sunday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast and was a longtime member of the Gideon’s International Loris Camp.
    Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth Davis Bell of the home; two daughters, Anita Powell and Chantal Thomas both of Loris; a son, Dennis Bell of Florida; two grandchildren, Cori Bell and Alexa Thomas both of Loris; four brothers, J. Carlton Bell and wife, Jeanette and Robert L. Bell and wife, Jane of Myrtle Beach, Perry Spencer Bell of Lexington, and Freddie Bell and wife, Brenda of Elmira, New York; and three sisters, Marie Stephens and husband, Bobby of Garden City, Betty Lunsford of Columbia, and Nancy B. Cribb of Tabor City.
    In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell was predeceased by two brothers, David Edgar Bell, Sr. and Samuel L. Bell and one sister, Barbara Ann Mortimore.
    Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Hardwick Funeral Home.
    Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mack Hutson officiating, committal services following at Holly Hill Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 6907 Hwy. 905, Conway, SC 29526 or to the Gideon’s International, PO Box 93, Loris, SC 29569.
