Bessie Porter: Tabor City

    Bessie “Betty” “Granny” Porter of Tabor City passed away Sunday, Sept. 18 at her home following an illness. She was 80.
    Mrs. Porter was born in West Green, Georgia, a daughter of the late Harry and Eliza Sapp. She was loved by all and was known as everybody’s’ “Granny”. Mrs. Porter enjoyed cooking and feeding her family and friends.
    She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Lee Porter, Sr.; two daughters, Ann Cunningham and Felicia Porter; one granddaughter, Jennifer Porter; three brothers, Cecil Sapp, J. C. Sapp, and Richard Sapp; and five sisters, Frances Meeks, Myrtis Spell, Gladys Hayes, Louella Watson, and Daisy Spoon.
     Survivors include one son, Herbert Lee Porter, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter, Kathleen Porter Rogers (Kevin) of Jacksonville, Florida; one son-in-law, John R. Cunningham, Jr. of Tabor City; five grandchildren, Charlene, Rebecca, Heather, Casey, and Katie; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
     Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel.
     Graveside services were planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Duncan Cemetery.
     The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff of Liberty Hospice.
