William Joyce Hardee: Loris

1928 – 2016

    William Joyce Hardee of Loris passed away Friday, Sept. 23 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.
    Mr. Hardee was born Dec. 24, 1928 in Loris, son of the late William Mayo Hardee and the late Attie Arjane Cox Hardee.
    Mr. Hardee served his country with courage and honor in the United States Army. After the Army, Mr. Hardee worked as a farmer until his retirement and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Hardee was a loving and compassionate caregiver of his wife of sixty-five years, Mrs. Rosa Piver Hardee as well as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and brother.
     Survivors include his son, William J. Hardee, II and wife, Brenda of Loris; four daughters, Theresa Singletary and husband, John of Tabor City, Phyllis Uebelacker and husband, John of Jacksonville, Florida, Lucina Stone and husband, Mike of Raeford, and Devora Harrelson and husband, Michael of Loris; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Defford D. Hardee of Creedmoor; and two sisters, Doris Piver of Tabor City, and Carolyn Edwards of Rock Hill.
     In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardee was predeceased by his wife, Rosa Piver Hardee; one daughter, Rosa Arjane Hardee; three brothers, John Watis Hardee, Avery Dalton Hardee and Shelton Clemson Hardee and five sisters, Iris Marie Sarvis, Elga Lena Russ, Mary Florence Fipps, Attie Leatis Smith and Vela Mayola Wood.
     Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Hardee Cemetery on Oak Dale Rd with Reverend Allen Singletary officiating.
