A Tabor City area man has been charged in a string of four armed robberies dating back to July 4 in three Columbus County municipalities.
James Laverne Bellamy, 45, of Pine Circle Drive, Tabor City, was arrested by a Columbus County Sheriff’s Deputy following a traffic stop late Monday afternoon, sheriff’s spokeswoman Michelle Tatum said.
Bellamy was charged with four counts or robbery with a dangerous weapon, and was jailed at the Columbus County Detention Center under a $700,000 secured bond.
Bellamy is accused of two Tabor City robberies, at the Vasco #1 convenience store on Fair Bluff Road on July 4, and at the Tabor City ABC Store on U.S. 701 Bypass on Sept. 17; the Happy Mart South on JK Powell Blvd. in Whiteville on Sept. 11; and at the Shop & Save on Main Street, Fair Bluff, on Sept. 24.
