Rev. Elmore Strickland: Cerro Gordo

1928 – 2016

    Rev. Elmore Strickland of Cerro Gordo died Tuesday, Nov.  29 in Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Whiteville. He was 88.
    Born Oct. 2, 1928 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Tomp and Mollie Strickland and the widower of Elizabeth “Libby” Turner Strickland.
    He is survived by one daughter, Polly Coleman (Reno) of Tabor City; one brother, Danny Strickland of Cerro Gordo; one sister, Nellie Mae Richardson of Tabor City; one grandchild, John Coleman; and three great grandchildren, Christopher, Lucas, and Tanner.
    In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Coleman; and five brothers, Rudolph Strickland, Reginald Strickland, Thomas Strickland, F. B. Strickland, and Robert Strickland.
    A graveside service was planned for noon Thursday, Dec. 1 in the Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cerro Gordo. Family planned to receive friends after the service at the graveside.
