Dennis J. Holmes: Longs

1934 – 2016
Dennis J. Holmes of Longs passed away Monday, Dec. 26 at Grand Strand Healthcare following an extended illness. He was 82.
Born on May 17, 1934 in Loris, he was the son of the late Dennie Birdie Holmes and the late Blanche Mabel Suggs Holmes. Mr. Holmes served his country with courage and honor in the United States Air Force. After the military he worked with Lance Inc. until his retirement.
Never one to sit idle, he opened Farmers Daughter Country Kitchen soon thereafter in Myrtle Beach, SC.
In his personal life, Mr. Holmes was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman whose passions included fishing and nature watching. He was also a Master Mason and longtime member of the Loris Masonic Lodge #205 AFM and a faithful and dedicated member of the Omar Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his son, Greg Holmes of Longs; his daughter, Angela Dee Holmes of Myrtle Beach, and their mother Phylis T. Holmes of Myrtle Beach; a special friend, Gayle Fowler of Mullins; one sister, Eula Jaye H. Collins of Loris; beloved niece and nephew, Kathy Moore and Jimmy L. Bell; sisters-in-law, Dolores Lineham Holmes of California and Irene Allen Holmes of Sumter; brother-in-law, William H. Drew of Conway, and many loving extended family members
In addition to his parents, Mr. Holmes was predeceased by three brothers, Herman J. Holmes, Liston Billy Holmes and Hope Holmes and two sisters, Reba H. Bell and Linda H. Drew.
Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Antioch Cemetery with Pastor Mack Hutson officiating and Masonic Rites conferred by Loris Lodge #205 AFM.
The family requests that memorials, in Mr. Holmes honor, be made to the charity of one’s choice.
