Jeanne Pinner Hood: Rock Hill

1930 – 2017

    Jeanne Pinner Hood of Rock Hill passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, at Harbor Chase Memory Care, Rock Hill. She was 86.
    Born in Mt. Olive, Mrs. Hood was a daughter of the late Charles Harlan Pinner and the late Wilma West Pinner. She graduated from Mars Hill Junior College and then from UNCG, formerly known as the Women’s College of North Carolina, where she received her Bachelors and Masters degree. She was a North Carolina State Extension Agent, a Home Economics teacher and most importantly, a homemaker.
    Mrs. Hood was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill and a former member of Eastview Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Outlook Club.
    She was the widow of Baxter M. Hood who was a former president of York Technical College.  She was affectionately known as “Mama Hood” and well known for her hospitality and kind and gentle spirit.
    Surviving are her children, Chuck Hood and his wife, Terri of Rock Hill, Mary Lynne Edwards and her husband, Vic of Rock Hill and Chip Hood and his wife Mary Katherine Goodwin of Asheville; her grandchildren, Aaron Hood, Lisa Anne Surratt, Donna Hood, Meredith Edwards, Frances Edwards, Baxter Hood and Asa Hood; her great-grandchildren, Grant Surratt and Mac Hood; her sister, Mary Jo Lassiter and her husband Bob of Raleigh; and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Hood and his wife, Linda of Matthews.
    A memorial service was planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. Family planned to receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of her son, Chuck and Terri Hood.
