A follow-up meeting to a recent gathering of community leaders addressing issues of gangs and drugs is planned for Thursday, Feb. 23, in Loris.
Scheduled for 6 p.m., the meeting will take place in the Public Safety Building in Loris.
A guest speaker is expected to discuss gang awareness and prevention programs. All are invited.
City councilman Michael Dozier, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, called for the series of meetings after Loris Middle School teachers Sherry Whisnant and Eugene Bellamy, Jr. addressed the committee last month.
“We’ve identified the issues and recognized that the number one problem in the city and the surrounding county is drugs and gangs,” Dozier said during the first meeting. “We can’t ignore it anymore.
“We have people working out there, there are organizations out there, but they don’t know each other. We need to bring all these organizations together for a common goal, plan and efforts, to solve our issues concerning our children.”
