Carrie Jean Wray Small: Lewisville

1943 – 2017

Carrie Jean Wray Small of Lewisville, advanced to be with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, on Wednesday morning, May 3. She was 73.

She was born on June 15, 1943 in Columbus County to the late J.C. and Bernice Wray.

Jean writes, “My life has been full of love – all my life, I have known I was loved. That is why I had a wonderful, full life. I always knew my big family loved one another and loved me; and l loved them. At age 13 I was convinced and convicted of God’s love for me. By age 16 I met the love of my life, Jack, whose smile, touch and love filled the rest of my days. Being the middle child and oldest girl in a family of six children, I learned and accepted responsibility early, but serving brought joy. I was blessed with a “shooter’s eye” and enjoyed much success in basketball. How thankful I have always been to have an education in nursing – serving others, helping, fixing or trying to fix their pain. A great love gift from God was my two sons and my three grandchildren. My life has been so rich with opportunities to serve others. I still am in awe that I have had such rewarding and full measure of life.”

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald, and her oldest son Jack Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jack, her son David and his bride Charlotte. Also her brothers and sisters Mitchell (Carol) Wray, Steve Wray, Janette Wray, Janelle (Steve) Frazier, Lois (Ronald’s bride) Wray, Roger (Kay) Small, and Kim and Lynda (Small) Todd. Also her beautiful grandchildren Gaines, Ava, and Caressa Small. Also her best friend Sharon Welborn and a host of other loving, devoted friends and family whom she loved dearly.

The family held a private service.
