Rev. Jim Ponder: Loris
1946 – 2017
Rev. Jim Ponder of Loris went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 16, at his residence. He was 70.
Rev. Ponder was born in Asheville, a son of the late Zane Grey and Luna Briggs Ponder.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served as a Baptist minister for more than 30 years in South Carolina and North Carolina. He worked as a contractor for more than 40 years.
Rev. Ponder had a servant’s heart: serving his country, his family, the church community, and most of all the Lord. He was predeceased by his wife, Kay Ballard Ponder and his brother, Danny Jo Ponder.
Survivors include his daughter, Missy Ponder Sutton (Dr. Darin Sutton) of Myrtle Beach; one son, Jamie Ponder (Marsha Ponder) of Conway; three grandchildren, Ansley Taylor Sutton and Connor James Sutton both of Myrtle Beach, and Elaina Kathryn Ponder of Conway; two brothers, Timothy Otto Ponder of North Carolina and Michael Davey Ponder of Georgia; and one sister, Teresa Ponder Coble (John Coble) of Georgia.
Visitation was planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20 at Living Water Baptist Church with Rev. Lebron Crisp, Rev. Kenny Todd, and Rev. Roger Black officiating. Entombment, with military honors, was to follow at the Hillcrest Mausoleum in Conway.
