Ruby Jenkins Morton: Longs

1921 – 2017

     Ruby Jenkins Morton of Longs passed away on Tuesday, July 18, at her home. She was 96.

     Mrs. Morton was born on Jan. 15, 1921 in Jackson Springs, daughter of the late Frank Jenkins and the late Tura Luck Jenkins. Mrs. Morton graduated from Hoffman High School in NC with perfect attendance and was the valedictorian of her class. She was a loving homemaker and the oldest member of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church.

     Survivors include her six daughters, Frankie Prince and husband, Ed of Sumter, Brenda Lewis and husband, Edmond of Charleston Heights, Judy Faircloth and husband, Pad of Wampee, Kay Vaught and husband, Bing of Loris, Phyllis Morton of Wampee, and Penny Howell and husband, Jon of Alexandria, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Eddie Prince, Duke Prince, Andy Lewis, Julius Lewis, Jr., Donald Faircloth, Jr., Erika Williams, Jill Lane, Casey Vaught and Jodi Howell; twenty-two great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

     Mrs. Morton was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Baxter Morton; seven brothers, Eff, Jeff, Lee, Floyd, James, Grover and Roy Jenkins and two sisters, Fleta Thompson and Jewell Powell.

     Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. Committal services were private.
