A murder investigation is underway following the discovery of a Tabor City woman in her car in northern Horry County early Tuesday.
Latosha Nicole Lewis, 31, was found near the intersection of Carolina and Church roads in the Green Sea community south of Tabor City, Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said.
Lewis had apparently been shot while seated in a dark colored Honda Accord, an Horry County Police Department report by Officer Jack Smith said.
A small child was also in the car, and after being taken to a hospital emergency room was released to the custody of the Department of Social Services, the report said. That child’s cries reportedly prompted a neighbor to call 911.
Police discovered the car, and body, after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the corner of Carolina and Church roads, the report said. The heavily redacted report indicates something amiss with the driver’s side window of the car, and that Lewis was seated in the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
An autopsy will determine how Lewis died, Hendrick said. That was expected to take place Tuesday afternoon, though Hendrick said he was not sure when the results would be available.
A dog team responded to the area. Despite those efforts, poilce have no suspects, HCPD spokeswoman Krystal Dotson said Tuesday.
Lewis had been living in Conway, her Facebook page said. She attended South Columbus High School.
