Funeral services for Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Damien Draper Bost, who died in the line of duty in a vehicle crash on Thursday, June 25, have been set for Monday, June 29.

Services, with full honors, will begin at 1 p.m. in the auditorium at South Columbus High School. Burial will follow in Watts Cemetery, Nakina.

Family will receive friends in the auditorium from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the same day.

Family and others gathered Friday at Meares and Jones Funeral Home in Fair Bluff as Bost’s body was escorted by a long line of law enforcement vehicles from numerous agencies in the region. Sheriff’s Office employees, both sworn and civilian, lined up in salute to the fallen officer as he was taken from a funeral home vehicle into the building.

Dozens of expressions of sympathy and admiration for Bost have been posted by various individual and groups, including South Columbus High School where Bost served as a School Resource Officer during the past school year; and Old Dock Elementary School where he had previously been an SRO.

“He is going to be very deeply missed by the schools and his colleague deputies,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said during a late afternoon news conference Thursday.

“Deputy Bost’s passion for his work shone brightly as he loved serving South Columbus High School and its students and staff with his generous spirit,” a SCHS Facebook post said. “His selfless heart will forever be remembered.”

Bost was described as devoted to his family, including his wife, Jayden; daughters Scottlyn and Fallon; his mother, Crystal Donahue; siblings and more. See the obituary here.

Memorial fund donations to support Bost’s family are being accepted by the Sandhills Chapter of the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association here. The site said “100% of the monies received by the PBF will go to Deputy Bost’s’ spouse to help during this tragic time.”
