Commencement week for area public high schools

It’s commencement week for three area high schools, with 474 scheduled to receive diplomas in one ceremony already complete, others tonight (June 3) and Saturday morning.
Graduation in the Green Sea Floyds High School gym on Tuesday including 101 students scheduled to receive their diplomas after posing for their final group picture at the Class of 2026, and later throwing their caps into the air.
Loris High School’s commencement for 220 seniors is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight (June 3) in the school gymnasium, with overflow seating in the auditorium where a jumbo screen will allow family and friends to take in the ceremony, from Pomp and Circumstance to the turning of tassels.
“Valedictorian Caitlyn Black, Salutatorian Kaydin Hughes and Class Laureate Shaeleigh Wriglesworth are the scheduled speakers for the LHS commencement. Senior Class secretary Haley Spence will provide Invocation, followed by Senior Class vice-president Gracie Sendler leading the Pledge of Allegiance,” said Senior Class advisor Jodi Nealey Cox.
Commencement at South Columbus High will cap the week, with 153 seniors scheduled to march into the school auditorium at 10 a.m. Saturday. Overflow seating will again be in the school gym, with a giant screen bringing the proceedings to those unable to secure tickets to the auditorium, limited to two per graduate.
Preceding them all, graduation for three Grace Christian School took place in May. Valedictorian Bennett Martin McGill delivered the commencement address.
