Nellie Strickland Spivey: Cerro Gordo

     Nellie Strickland Spivey of Cerro Gordo died Sunday, Dec. 10, in Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was 67.

     Born Aug. 27, 1950 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Homsey Everette Strickland and Neppie Burnice Coleman Strickland and the widow of Ted Larue Spivey, Sr.

     She is survived by one daughter, Shanna Thompson (Kevin) of Cerro Gordo; one son, Teddy Spivey, Jr. (Angie) of Chadbourn; two sisters, Betty Jean Buffkin of Atkinson, Rhonda Sue Strickland of Whiteville; six grandchildren, CPL Kevin Ethan Thompson (Rose) of Ft. Bragg, Allie Thompson, Troy Thompson, Baileyanna Spivey, Erica Locklear, Garison Johnson; one great grandchild, Noah Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Pete Strickland, Phillip Strickland; and one sister, Shirley Strickland.

     A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cerro Gordo.
