Mavis Butler Coleman: Tabor City
1927 – 2017
Mavis Butler Coleman of Tabor City passed away Monday, Dec. 11. She was 90.
Born Feb. 15, 1927 in Tabor City, she was the daughter of the late John Graddie and Mary Caroline Gore Cox. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She had a strong faith and love for God and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for many years.
She was a kind, loving person always with a smile, positive attitude and loved helping others. She loved life, her family and her many friends. Mavis will never be gone because she is part of who we are and she is in all of us. She taught us how to live and how to love.
She was married to the late Robert Edward “Ned” Butler for 33 years and the late R. C. Coleman Jr. for 7 years. In addition to her parents and spouses she was preceded in death by two brothers L. B. Cox and Don Cox; two sisters, Tina Williamson and Ruby Cox; a step son, Dr. David Coleman.
Survivors include her children, Bob Butler and wife E’Lonna of Conway, and Candy Butler West and husband Ron of Durham; one step-daughter, Judy Coleman Caines of Tabor City; four grandchildren, Dr. Chad Butler and wife Dr. Jen Butler, Jeff Butler and wife Melanie, both of Conway,
Casey West Novak and husband Andrew of Raleigh, and Courtney West (Steve Kerr) of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren, Blane Butler, Benji Butler, Cami Butler, Madi Butler, Lucas Novak and Lucy Novak; one sister-in-law, Sandy Cox of Tabor City.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 16, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Tabor City, burial following in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City.
Visitation was planned for the hour prior to the service in the church.
