Eunice Johnson Cox: Loris

1926 – 2018

     Eunice Johnson Cox of Loris passed away Monday, Feb. 5, at her son’s home. She was 91.

     Mrs. Cox was born on November 11, 1926 in Aynor, daughter of the late George Johnson and the late Flora Fodie Miller Johnson. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Camp Swamp United Methodist Church.

     Survivors include her son, Neil Cox and wife Heather of Aynor; daughter Gayle Cox Steed and husband, H.W. of Statham, Georgia; daughter-in-law Gail Blanton Cox of Little River; brother Bobby Johnson and wife, Betty Jo of Loris; three sisters, Myrtle Holmes of Loris, Peggy Gore and husband, John of Thomasville, and June Johnson of Aynor; two sisters-in-law, Doris C. Johnson and Doris S. Johnson; six grandchildren, Callie Cox, Shelby Cox, Tony Cox and wife, Medissa, Matt Cox, Wendy Steed and Kim Castang and husband, Jean; and seven great-grandchildren, Maris Castang, Katiana Castang, Anna Brice Cox, Cade Cox, Cowen Cox, Alyssa Ahner and Gryphon Carriker.

     Mrs. Cox was predeceased by her husband, Joe Burnis “J.B.” Cox, Jr.; son Ronald Gene Cox; two brothers, Maryland Johnson and Calvin Ireland Johnson; three sisters, Virginia Smith, Luttie Norris and Velma Strickland Mixon; and great-granddaughter Jolie Castang.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Camp Swamp United Methodist Church with Pastor Glen W. Dameron and Rev. Scarlett Tanner Hester officiating. Committal services were to be private.

     Visitation was planned from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Feb. 8 in the Camp Swamp United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
