Mae McCumbee Clemons: Loris

1930 – 2018

     Mae McCumbee Clemons of Loris was welcomed home by Jesus Wednesday morning, May 9. She was 87.

     She was born May 28, 1930, the daughter of Hebron and Juanita Grice McCumbee. She was a graduate of Tabor City High School.

     She had four children that she adored and loved with all her heart and they loved and adored her with all their hearts: Diane Clemons of Columbia, Sherry Lovette (Mike) of Green Sea, Sammy Clemons of Columbia, Mark Clemons (Marion) of Columbia; three granddaughters who were the apples of her eyes: Lindsey Clemons Sasser (Nic) of North Myrtle Beach, Morgan Kayla Clemons of Mt. Pleasant and Taryn Ashley Clemons of Charleston; two sweet great granddaughters who were the icing on her cake: Emma McKenzie Sasser and Paisley Mae Sasser; two siblings that she loved dearly: Lillie Gray Strickland of Loris and Bobby McCumbee of Tabor City; many nieces, nephews and cousins that she stayed in touch with and loved.

     She had many life-long friends that she cherished.

     She was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Mildred Prince and Doris Miller of Tabor City and brother, Billy McCumbee of Tabor City.

     In 1972, she began working as a teller at Waccamaw Bank, now BB&T Bank, and worked her way up to supervisor of the payroll department. She retired after 20 years of faithful service in 1992.

     She was a dedicated member of Green Sea Baptist Church for 70 years where she accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 18.

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Green Sea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall or the General Fund at PO Box 125; Green Sea, SC 29545.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Green Sea Baptist Church with Pastor Willie Walters officiating, committal services following at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.

     Visitation was planned from 1:30 to 3 p.m., preceeding the funeral service, in the Green Sea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
