Helen Gore Wright: Loris
1931-2018
Helen Gore Wright of Loris died Saturday, May 12, at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She was 87.
Born March 4, 1931 in Horry County, she was the daughter of John Burnis Gore and Annabelle Carter Gore of Loris.
Helen graduated from Loris High School and continued her education at Richmond Business College in Richmond, Virginia. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the FBI. She met the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Bobby Wright, on a blind date on Christmas day. She is lovingly known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren, whom she took great pride in. Helen enjoyed spending her days reading, working in the garden and crocheting. She leaves a legacy of love for those who had the joy of knowing her.
She is survived by two sisters, Annette Gore Carle of Conway and Cheryl Gore McDaniel, and husband Vernon, of Loris; one sister-in-law, Hilda Wright of Tabor City; two daughters, Tammy Wright McDonald and husband, Bobby, of Charlotte and Anita Wright Dobbs and husband, David, of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Amy McDonald Daugherty, Andrew McDonald and wife, Ashley, Matthew McDonald, Meredith McDonald, Meagan Dobbs McCoy and husband, Jed, Molly Dobbs and Ryan Dobbs; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and who were close to her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Wright; her son, Barry Wright; and her brother, Roe Gore.
Helen loved the Lord with all her heart and loved her church home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to New Life Baptist Church, 420 New Life Church Road, Tabor City, NC 28463.
Visitation was planned from 2 to 3p.m. on Friday, May 18, at New Life Baptist Church, Tabor City, with funeral services at 3 pm at the church, burial following in Spivey Cemetery, Tabor City.
