Hubert “Gene” Thompkins: Conway

1953 – 2018

     Hubert “Gene” Thompkins of Conway passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 65.

     Mr. Thompkins was born June 24, 1953 in Conway, son of the late Lloyd Thompkins and the late Bertha Lee Cartrette Thompkins. Mr. Thompkins worked as a logger and was passionate about being a volunteer firefighter at the Maple Station in Conway.

     Survivors include his wife, Anna Thompkins of the home; his son Wendell Thompkins and wife Daniella, daughter Sunaco Thompkins, all of Conway; two step-sons, Charlie Grainger and wife Nicole of Conway and Andy Proctor of Stockholm, Sweden; two brothers, Buddy Thompkins and wife Verna Jean, and Terry Thompkins, all of Conway; a granddaughter, “Millie” Grainger; two step-grandsons, David Grainger and Matthew Grainger; three nieces, Megan Thompkins and husband Alan, Olivia Posey and husband Travis, and Cheri Nabors and husband Michael and their children; three nephews, Chris Thompkins and wife Jasmine and their children, Josh “Fred” Thompkins, and Jason Ammons, as well as many other loving friends and extended family.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompkins was predeceased by his first wife, Sue Thompkins.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Hardwick Funeral Home, Loris.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in the Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating.

     Committal services were to be private.
