David James Porter: Loris

1958 – 2019

     David James Porter of Loris passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, at McLeod Loris hospital following an illness. He was 60.

     Mr. Porter was born Sept. 20, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Murrey Lee Porter and the late Peggy Lou Turner Porter Garn.

     Mr. Porter was a retired brick mason and an active member of Mt Zion Baptist Church.

     He started Porter Pool Co. in Myrtle Beach and was a firefighter for several years.

     Mr. Porter was very active in the church including the church maintenance committee, he helped with the “Tracs” ministry, and was the church custodian.

     He will be missed by the many loving friends at the church and will be remembered as a true northern gentlemen.

     Survivors include his wife, Rose “Susie” Porter of the home; son Adam Porter; daughter Bethany Compton and husband, Andrew; three brothers, Bobby Porter and wife Jeani, Edward Garn, Charles Porter; two sisters, Gerri Askew and husband Tony and Karla Binkley and husband, Jerry, all of Ohio.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor David Watts officiating, committal services following at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service at the church,
