Luetta Hilburn Penny: Chadbourn

1931 – 2019

     Luetta Hilburn Penny of Chadbourn died Thursday, March 7, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, Whiteville. She was 88.

     Born Jan. 14, 1931 in Horry County, she was the daughter of the late Vance Lee and Nellie Rebecca Fowler Hilburn and the widow of the late James Devon Penny.

     She is survived by her three sons, Jimmy Evans of Hallsboro, Jerry Evans of Chadbourn, and Archie “Bucky” Evans of Hallsboro; three daughters, Pat Grainger of Tabor City, Crystal Norris of Clarendon, and Rose Nance of Whiteville; one step-daughter, Wanda Canupp of Clarkton; four brothers, Brice Hilburn of Troy, Leon Hilburn of Loris, Henry Hilburn of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Dale Hilburn of Tabor City; four sisters, Gertie Spivey of Loris, Vera Piver of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Eva Cox of Kingsman, Arizona and Pearl Matthews of Hertford; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Dean Evans; three daughters, Louise Nobles, Jean Cook and Debbie Wilson; one brother, Herman Hilburn; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in Oak Dale Baptist Church Cemetery, Loris.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service in the chapel.

     In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
