Ervin H. Powell: Loris

1934 – 2019

     Ervin H. “Runt” Powell of Loris passed away Saturday, April 20. He was 84.

     Born June 20, 1934 in Loris, he was the son of the late Charlie and Edith Turbeville Powell.

     Mr. Powell was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War era. “Runt,” as those from Rock Hill knew him, was the former owner and operator of The Pilot Wheel Seafood Restaurant.

     Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Sara Michelle Powell, one sister, Jean Stroud, and two brothers, Elbert and Windell Powell.

     Surviving Mr. Powell are his wife, Pamela H. Powell of Loris; a daughter, Jan Vescovi of Loris; a son, Charlie Powell of Loris; two brothers, Bobby Powell and Dale Powell of Loris; three sisters, Ila Kimbrell of Rock Hill, Lucinda Faircloth, and Faye Fowler, both of Tabor City; three grandchildren; and one loving dog, Daisy.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. David Watts officiating, burial following in the church cemetery.

     Visitation was planned from 1 to 1:45 p.m., preceding the service, at the church.
